According to an online site Kingfut, Former Egyptian and Al Ahly goalkeeper Ahmed Shobier have played down speculation regarding the hosting country of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2021, stating that it is expected to be hosted by Cameroon as planned.
The refusal comes after rumors had began to circulate that Cameroon might once again step down from being the hosts of AFCON 2021, in a repeat to the same scenario that occurred in 2019 when they withdrew their hosting bid for Egypt to step in and organise the event.
“Egypt did not make a bid to host the competition nor Cameroon have withdrawn their bid,” Shobier said on ON Time Sport TV.
“Cameroon stadiums are ready but they have some minor issues with the roads leading to the stadiums.”
AFCON 2021 is scheduled to start on January 9, 2022 until February 6, 2022. Egypt had qualified after finishing on top of Group G, alongside Comoros who finished second with nine points.
I hope Cameroon go on to host the competition. It was taken from our hands the last time and this should not happen again.
